The Childrens' Choir from Bath visits Braunschweig.

Everything in the world was rosy yesterday, when the childrens' choir from Bath visited Schloss Richmond to meet the Mayor of Braunschweig (BS) and to sing in the Schloss.   The exchange visit has been arranged with the help of Bath Abbey and BS Cathedral, and the twinning groups in both countries.  It was such a lovely occasion, and as the school head said in her speech of thanks, "It is so good for the  children to meet those of other countries, and to realise that they all share the same aspirations and interests."  The twinning of BS and the City of Bath dates from the early 1950's, and was established just after the war to promote friendship between the two countries.

The above photo shows the children, as they waited on the steps of the Schloss for the Mayor to arrive.  They sang a few songs as they waited to greet him.  Pizza and fruit juices were laid on for lunch, and ice cream later, for when the children were entertained by a clown in the Schloss park.

 Warming up before singing.

Several teachers and parents accompanied the children, who are staying in a youth hostel in Wolfsburg, home of the VW factory.  The choir has several engagements apart from meeting the mayor.   On Wednesday afternoon they visited a German school to meet the children, and today they will practise in the Cathedral for their concert this evening, when they sing with the children of the Cathedral choir.

A clown keeps the children entertained in the Schloss garden.

The weather is lovely, just like my summers here of old!   But some towns in south Germany, that lie along the banks of the rivers Danube and Rhein are under metres of flood water.
